Baron Jupp Kerckerinck

In 2003, I went on a cage dive with my daughter Philipa to watch Great White Sharks in the Pacific at Isla Guadalupe in Mexico. I was so intrigued by those wonderful animals that I decided to spend a lot of time and effort talking to people about sharks and their senseless slaughter all over the world...

SHARKS ARE DANGEROUS, BUT ONLY WHEN THEY ARE DEAD!

They belong either in the ocean or on the harzardous waste dump!

Isn't it ironic that shark fin soup, which is believed to be an aphrodisiac, can actually make people infertile because of the high methyl-mercury content?

Species & Families

Scientists classify fish into two main groups: Osteichthyes, and Chondrichthyes. Osteichthyes, or bony fish, are the vast majority of fish in the sea, they have a skeleton composed purely of bone. Chondrichthyes, on the other hand, including sharks, skates, and rays, have a skeleton that is made of cartilage...

Common Sense

Swimming with sharks is one of the most exiting things I have ever done. It is a feeling of going into another world; their world, and that is what we seem to forget so often. Whenever we enter the water we are in their world, not in ours. We are guests and should behave with the necessary respect...

The 'Jaws of Life'

If you don't know sharks you might call them the 'Jaws of Death'. But if you are familiar with the complexity of the biological balance in the ecosystem in the oceans of the world, you will know that those are indeed the 'Jaws of Life'. The aim of this website is to introduce these wonderful animals to you. Let me tell you why I call them the 'Jaws of Life'...

Shark Alarm

Sometimes sharks kill humans but 10 million times more often, humans kill sharks. Sharks have existed for over 400 Million years; that's 130 Million years before the first Dinosaurs roamed the earth. We don't exactly know what killed the Dinosaurs but we do know who is killing the sharks, it's the human predator - the most destructive and irresponsible predator on earth...

Some people in the media are not interested in the truth about shark behavior, because they would have to admit that they have been telling too many lies about them in the past.

In 2009 I saw a production on the Discovery Channel, called “Tiger Shark Attack”. It showed sharks attacking a dummy and ripping it apart. This so-called documentary was filmed at exactly the same location in the Bahamas, where my friends and I go diving with tiger- and lemon sharks every year, without cages or any kind of protection. The dummy, however, was stuffed with dead fish. Of course, the sharks wanted to get the fish, that's what sharks normally do, they eat fish. If I would stuff my dive suit with dead fish, they would attack me, too. But as long as you don't have dead fish in your pants, you are fairly safe.

But fortunately, there is some good reporting as well: like the article in 'The Syracuse Post Standard'.

The German news paper 'Westfaelische Nachrichten' did 2 good articles about sharks and my efforts to educate the public about the true nature of them and their important role in the oceans.

On January 2nd, 2009 USA Today had a positive article showing myself swimming with a tiger shark. That kind of media attention is what we need, if we want to tell the truth about sharks and help to prevent the senseless slaughter of millions of them every year.

On May3rd, 2009 there was a very well written article in the German paper "Welt am Sonntag", by Juergen Broeker.

I also had the chance to appear on four national TV-shows in Germany, where I reached over 4 Million viewers, telling them the truth about sharks. If you are interested to see those shows, just google: Sharkprotect.com on TV

I like people who listen when we talk about the importance of a healthy ocean and the unique role the sharks play in those oceans. I hope that the media will report more truthfully about sharks in the future and show what amazing creatures they really are.
