Species & Families

Scientists classify fish into two main groups: Osteichthyes, and Chondrichthyes. Osteichthyes, or bony fish, are the vast majority of fish in the sea, they have a skeleton composed purely of bone. Great web site! I recently experienced the excitement of a dive with sharks. To swim alongside them is an incredible experience. Thanks Jupp, for taking the time to spread the word on why these animals deserve their place in the circle of life without being senselessly slaughtered.

Many people ask me how they can help to save the sharks. My motto is: "Knowledge leads to Understanding". Everybody who wants to take the information from this website and tell as many people about it as possible, in schools, clubs or wherever, will do his part and it does not cost anything.

I was so saddened today to see the media "bragging"about killing a rare hammerhead shark. Why is it people think they are clever by killing these beautiful animals? I am so glad I found this site, even if it is just to sign the guestbook.

The entire ocean desperately needs protection by everyone who believes that a future can sustained for our children. Without our help, the health of our planet, our children and their children will wither. Thanks Jupp for speaking out clearly on this topic and the threat it poses. Knowledge is the first ingredient required in the search for a cure, and this disease of unbridled destruction of the ocean and its bounty will destroy our future if a cure isn't implemented soon.

AS a diver and shark lover I'm frustrated with the CITES results of March 2010. We need to get the word out that shark fin soup is Dishonorable!

I'm happy to have found your site as you have some good information and an uplifting message. Keep up the good work and long live the shark!
(My first experience with a shark was with a 8' Bull Shark off a wreck in Florida. I was in awe and this particular shark was very mellow and not bothered by our presence.)
