My fascination with sharks began during my first shark dive in the Pacific with my daughter Philipa. After the dive I read every book I could find on sharks. There was one book, however, that I could not find anywhere...a vocabulary of shark terminology. So here is my version, which hopefully will enable you to understand them a little better.

Sharks have inhabited the world for 400 million years but they mature almost at the same rate as humans, very slow for a threatened species. It means that some of the species cannot reproduce fast enough to replace the number of sharks killed by humans.
